In 21-day-old nodules, LjENOD40-1 gene transcripts accumulate in the vascular tissue surrounding the nodule. Additionally, in green young pods, LjENOD40-1 is up-regulated in the ovules and very strong hybridization signal is observed in the phloem tissue and epithelium cells. High expression was also observed at the globular stage embryo. In mature 21-day-old nodules LjENOD40-1 is highly expressed in vascular tissues of nodule. (Flemetakis et al., 2000) LjENOD40-1 is abundantly induced in very early stages of bacterial infection or Nod factor application, LjENOD40-1 is predominant in responding to Nod factors at the early stages of nodule formation.
